In 2016 Google introduced an app called the Awareness API. What this app does is, it collects and saves data of what you have done, what you’re doing, what’s near by and the weather. The app collects all these data to more intelligently react to your current situation. One year later… Google has created an application that will take advantage of the data collected from your daily activities to design you a dress.

You might be thinking to yourself, “What?! A dress?!”

Yeah, you read right! A DRESS. A personalized one nonetheless.

Google has collaborated with H&M’s digital fashion house Ivyrevel to create a fashion revolution! This project is called “Coded Couture“.

All users have to do is download the android application and give it consent to their daily lives and activities. Besides that, will monitor the users movements and collect accurate data from the user. After enough data has been collected, the app will design a dress for the user and from there users can decide if they would like to place an order for that dress. Get this, the dress even has a cool name! Google calls it the “Data Dress”.

The application will specifically be using Snapshot API to monitor the users daily activity and lifestyle (e.g where they hang out, where they eat, weather in that area and more). It will take a week for the application to collect enough data to digitally tailor a dress for the user. Which can then be bought with just a click!

The main purpose of this is so that people can translate their lifestyle into a unique fashion piece. Also, users also get to pick what kind of style they would like the dress to be (e.g work, parties or formal events). The creation of the dress is a representation of the users routes and routines like a map.

Google has also announced that every detail of the dress from the material, colour, embellishment used and even the accessories that comes with the dress are data driven as well. An example would be, the material will be chosen based on the users weather and temperature data.

The application is currently still in a closed beta. Besides that, the co-founder/fashion blogger of Ivyrevel Kenza Zouiten, and a few other style influencers are currently testing the application out.

The custom H&M dress will start at $99 and the app will only be released at the end of the year.
